It is a privilege to serve at God's altar on Sunday. We encourage both youth and adults to become acolytes and to help the clergy during worship services and at weddings, funerals, and special services. Youth in grades 5-12 are invited to train to become acolytes. Youth usually serve at the 10:00 a.m. service. Adult acolytes usually serve at the 8:00 service or for special service during the week.
Volunteer members of the Altar Guild prepare the vessels and vestments of the altar for each of the services in the week. They assist the clergy in preparations for Sunday and weekday services, including weddings, funerals, baptisms and other occasions like Christmas and Easter. Members serve on a rotating basis by assignment.
The Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) is a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a life of prayer, service, and evangelism. Daughters make a commitment to Jesus as their Savior and follow Him as Lord of their lives. Daughters meet at various times throughout the year and also serve through special projects and group activities. For information about the DOK or to inquire about the next information session, please contact Good Shepherd Chapter President Laurie Caudle.
Eucharistic Ministers assist the clergy in the distribution of the Holy Communion, reading the Bible lessons, and directing the Prayers of the People during church services. This ministry opportunity is open to any who wish to serve. Eucharistic Ministers are approved by the Vestry and licensed by the Diocese. Training is offered at Good Shepherd
We participate in the healing ministry that Jesus began by offering prayer, anointing with oil and laying on of hands to those seeking healing. Members of the Healing Team will also visit in homes or hospitals to pray with those who are ill, preparing for surgery or other situations.
Livestream Technicians work under the direction of the Technology Coordinator and assist with streaming of services on Sundays and occasionally on week days.
Sound Technicians work primarily at the 8:00 a.m. services and any service that we do not livestream. Both positions require some technical understanding and will have training provided on our dedicated system.
If you want to get to know people in a hurry, become an Usher at Good Shepherd. Ushers greet worshipers, hand out bulletins, pass offering plates, and assist in guiding people to the altar rail. Ushers serve on a rotating basis at the service of their choice. It's rewarding and fun. You should try it!
Vergers work under the direction of the rector, to assist with the organization and operation of worship services. Vergers have the responsibility of opening and closing on Sundays and they serve at both services each week on a rotating basis.
